What’s on in Essex in Spring 2022?

Maldon Mud Race
Are you ready to get muddy? Whether you wish to take on the depths of the river Blackwater’s sticky racecourse or watch from Maldon’s prom, you’re sure for a fun day out. The event attracts 15,000 spectators from across Europe as 300 fundraisers take on the challenge of the Maldon Mud Race. As well as watching competitors take on the sludge, there’s also a duck race, stalls and a whole heap of fun to be had. Essex Serpent
Last year we were all a little star struck as we spotted actors Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes filming along our shores. The shoot was for a new six-part series, The Essex Serpent, written by Sarah Perry. With many scenes set on Maldon’s historic High Street and strolls in the park, why not retrace the actors’ steps? The Essex Serpent is also an excellent read and an ideal addition to your suitcase for your weekend retreat in one of our huts or lodges.

Get back to nature with a wild cookery lesson!
Just a few miles along the estuary from Osea Meadows is Abbots Farm, a stunning Essex Wildlife Trust reserve. Not only does it offer 700 acres of farmland, but there’s also stunning coastal marshes to explore. But on 23 April they’re also running a cookery lesson with a difference! The Forest School instructors will be combining wellbeing and mindfulness sessions in the great outdoors with campfire cooking. Try your hand at practicing a range of fire lighting and fire laying, from upside down fires, using a range of materials from char cloth to sticks. You’ll also be able to learn how to make your favourite campfire treats without too much charcoal! Sign-up today.
