What’s on in Essex in 2019

Here at Osea Meadows we have an absolutely stunning location beside the Blackwater Estuary in rural Essex. Whilst we know that our guests adore all the benefits of spending quality time in the natural environment, the wider county of Essex has a lot of events taking place that make fun family days out.

The Life Arts Wellbeing Festival, 15-16 June

The largest wellbeing festival in East Anglia takes place over two days at Chelmsford City Racecourse. The festival will feature yoga, meditation, live music, cookery demonstrations, pain relief workshops, mindfulness and much more, along with food and drink and special areas for kids. Tickets are £5 for adults and children are free-of-charge. To find out more, visit www.lifearts.co.uk

The Leigh Folk Festival, 27-30 June

Leigh is the rather nice little fishing town set in the shadow of its larger, more brash neighbour, Southend-on-Sea. Leigh is the perfect place to go crabbing, hang out in one of its cafés or wander around its art galleries. It’s also home to the Leigh Folk Festival, which is now in its 28th year and takes place across the town. This free festival has the homely warmth of a village fete but with the added attraction of catching some of the country’s best folk musicians and even Morris Men! Check out www.leighfolkfestival.com for a full line-up.

Beeleigh Abbey Gardens Open Days, 14 & 21 June, 5, 19 & 26 July, 9 & 23 August

The three acres of spacious and peaceful gardens of the 12th Century Beeleigh Abbey, near Maldon, have an historic backdrop, and have been lovingly restored over the last few years by a dedicated team of gardening experts. The gardens are only open to the public on set days throughout the summer, but they’re dates not to be missed! Stroll through woodland, water features, rose gardens and more. Go to www.visitmaldon.co.uk for more information.

Maldon Regatta, 21 September

The maritime town of Maldon is on our doorstep and the regatta is a wonderful opportunity to watch various classes of boats and yachts race against each other on the water. At harbourside you can explore a traditional old Thames sailing barge and see what like was like upper and lower deck! On land there are many fun activities, such as rubber duck racing, treasure hunt, a BBQ and many more events running all day. Visit www.maldonregatta.co.uk for more details.

Don’t forget the year-round attractions Essex has to offer, such as Colchester Zoo, Adventure Island at Southend, Colchester Castle, Audley End House and Barleylands Farm Park, to name just a few!
