The Essential Guide to Glamping

If you love the great outdoors but not fond of camping, you should consider glamping. It’s the best way to experience the natural environment on your doorstep in the lap of luxury. Here’s our lowdown on how to plan your glamping getaway.

First decide what type of glamping accommodation you’d prefer, it’s not just about stylish tents with rugs and fairy lights! You can choose from traditional yurts, boho shepherds’ huts, designer pods and glass houses to spacious and practical safari tents.

Home comforts
Most glamping sites will provide you with all you need to create a home-from-home. But there are a few items you should bring from home. Even in the summer months the nights can get chilly, so pack a blanket so you can stay up late in cosy comfort whilst you chat, have a BBQ, or just relax under the starry night sky. Bedlinen is also essential, so bring your favourite sheets, pillowcases, sleeping bags or duvet.

Games
Whilst all glamping sites allow big kids and little kids to explore and play, don’t forget to pack your favourite football, rounders bats, hula hoops, bikes and hover boards. Also bring fun board games just in case the British weather takes a turn for the worse!

Outside games are also a great way to keep the kids busy and an ideal way to break the ice with other children.

Relax and digitally detox
One of the joys of glamping, apart from being in the great outdoors, is the chance to step back from the demands of social media and take a few days digitally detoxing. Spend quality time with family or reconnect with friends without the distractions of constant notifications. Leave the phone safely locked in the car’s glove box. To ensure you don’t get tempted to reach for the phone, bring a real camera to capture precious moments.

Know before you go!
Do your research on an area before you go! Find out if a local theatre or venue has a show you would like to go to and book tickets in advance. There may be a restaurant with a great reputation that you could book a table for, or find out where you can buy great local, fresh produce, to either take home or to use on your glamping BBQ.

A few extras
A glamping experience is fun, so treat yourself to a few extras! A cocktail shaker and pretty solar fairy lights don’t take up much room and are ideal for parties. Kids love s’mores and marshmallows on sticks, so bring stocks from home. Of course don’t forget torches for night-time explorations!
