Make a Splash at Osea Meadows

Make a Splash at Osea Meadows

When the sun is shining and the water is calm, there’s no better place than out on the river having fun. At Osea Meadows the Blackwater estuary is on our doorstep, so what are you waiting for?

Paddling and SUP

The Blackwater estuary is surrounded by secluded sandy beaches, ideal to set up a base camp to inflate your paddleboards (SUP) and kayaks. Paddling has really taken off over recent years and once you are out there doing it, it’s easy to see why! Stunning views from the river with a refreshing breeze on a hot day, plus gentle exercise and time with friends, adds up to a winning combination.

Paddling also reduces stress, is a great cardio workout, burns calories and improves balance – you’ll never have so much fun doing something so good for you!
If you have never paddled before, there’s plenty of activity centres where you can learn the skills needed to be safe on the water. Most of the activity schools will also hire and sell equipment, so you don’t need to make a large investment in new kit to get the most out of your stay. Discover the art of SUP with Maldon-based Frangipani SUP, once you’re ready, our gentle summer sea is a wonderful place to explore with beaches and salt marshes waiting to be explored. There’s also plenty of stunning creeks along the estuary to discover and the view from the water means you’ll get up close to the local wildlife and feel like you’re on a mini safari.

For really still water there are rivers and canals close to Osea Meadows at Heybridge basin. Most canals will require you to buy a permit before you launch your craft onto the water, so please buy before you enter the water.

Water Sports and Jet Skis

If paddle boarding or kayaking doesn’t appeal to you, just go for a swim or a barefoot paddle to help cool you down and enjoy quality down time amongst the sea air and big open skies.

Adrenalin junkies may want to venture out on their jet-skis, taking a spin around the estuary and having fun on the water. Sailing is also popular and a great way to take a sneaky-peak at Osea Island, a getaway destination for the rich and famous. The coastline around Osea Meadows is stunning and a haven for sailing, with lots of marinas and islands to navigate around. There’s also plenty of quiet spots to anchor for a spot of sea fishing.

Safety first

If you do go out on the water, always make sure you’re wearing a buoyancy aid, let people know where you are and what time you’ll be back, know the weather conditions and tides before you set out and be a confident swimmer. Keep your phone in a waterproof bag and take a bottle of water with you and wear high protection sun cream.
