Discover the Magic of The Essex Serpent at Osea...

Do you love the new TV miniseries ‘The Essex Serpent’? Did you know it was filmed just down the road in Maldon?

Hollywood A-listers, Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes, were spotted filming around the area, as they recreated Sarah Perry’s bestselling novel about a mythical beast that was once said to roam the river Blackwater! Treat yourself to an action-packed short break and follow our special behind-the-scenes guide to view the filming locations.

Retrace the stars’ steps and you never know; you might even find the legendary beast yourself!

Roam the River Blackwater Estuary
Osea Meadows glamping is set in beautiful grounds by the Blackwater Estuary, a 5538-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The estuary provides a stunning backdrop for many scenes in ‘The Essex Serpent’, and it is well worth wandering by during your visit. By the shoreline, you’ll spot a variety of wildlife, including migrating birds and pretty wildflowers. Sit and watch the river flow by and see if you can spot anything lurking in the deep!

Visit Historic Maldon
Osea Meadows is a short drive from the historic market town of Maldon, famous for its sea salt. Hiddleston and Danes spent many days filming in the area, strolling down the High Street, where you’ll find an array of boutiques, quaint afternoon tea shops and the iconic Moot Hall. The film crew also recreated a historic harbourside, and today you can still view the majestic Thames sailing barges, which were used in the miniseries at Hythe Quay.

Take a trip to Tollesbury
Drive to the village of Tollesbury, approximately a thirteen-minute journey from Osea Meadows and another stunning filming location for ‘The Essex Serpent’. Wander over boardwalks and view the big red lightship, whilst admiring the swirling snake-like wetlands.
